SMS & Notifications

Text customers and your team automatically — voucher codes after purchase, usage warnings, welcome messages, router alerts — and run bulk SMS Marketing campaigns. Delivery uses NettPortal SMS credits or your own SMS provider API keys.

In plain language

Notifications = automatic SMS (and one daily sales email) when something happens. SMS Marketing = you choose who to text and what to say (promo, outage notice, etc.). Both share the same SMS delivery setup.

This is not Hubtel/Paystack payment keys (Payments & Gateways). Voucher SMS after a sale still uses Communication. WhatsApp messaging is not launched yet (the menu redirects here).

Where to find it

  1. Grow → Notifications — delivery mode, templates, End of Day email.
  2. Grow → SMS Marketing — contacts, campaigns, stats, history.
  3. Purchase SMS Credits — open from the SMS credit balance chip in the header (not listed under Money).
  4. Needs viewSettings (Managers / operators typically have it). Agents cannot open these pages.

SMS delivery: credits vs your own API

NettPortal credits

Default. Each SMS (marketing or notification) uses 1 credit from your org balance. Buy more under Purchase SMS Credits — Ghana checkout via Hubtel; other countries via Paystack.

Your own SMS provider

Pick a provider available for your organization country, enter API credentials, and send on that account. NettPortal credits are not required for those sends. Providers include (availability depends on country):

  • Arkesel, PiloSMS, Termii, Bulk SMS Ghana / Nigeria, BulkClix, Hubtel SMS
  • July SMS, Pandora SMS (Uganda)
  • Africa's Talking, Intouch (Rwanda), Blessed Text, SMS South Africa, Nkomo SMS

Hubtel SMS is separate from Hubtel payment keys in Payment Settings.

Choose the mode at the top of Notifications, then Save Settings.

Notifications (automated SMS + email)

  1. Open Grow → Notifications.
  2. Set SMS delivery (credits or own provider).
  3. Turn on Enable SMS Notifications.
  4. Edit each template you need (toggle + message text). Save Settings.

Account & access

  • Customer / Employee / Agent Welcome SMS
  • Email Verification SMS
  • Password Reset SMS

Hotspot & vouchers

  • Hotspot Voucher Purchase SMS — after guest or agent buy (credentials / code)
  • Hotspot Voucher Top-Up SMS
  • Hotspot Data Usage Warning SMS — warn at a % you set (default 80%). Online payment vouchers only (Hubtel, Paystack, M-Pesa, etc.)

PPPoE

  • PPPoE Purchase Thank-You SMS
  • Data usage / package expiry alert templates live here; channels and thresholds (email / SMS / both) are set under PPPoE → Settings

Operator alerts (templates here, toggles elsewhere)

  • Router offline / online SMS — enable in the router Offline Notifications modal
  • Multi-WAN link alert SMS — enable on Multi ISP (SMS link alerts)

End of Day Sales Report (email)

Daily summary of yesterday's completed sales at 1:00 AM (Africa/Accra) to your organization email. Skipped if there were no completed transactions. This is email only — not SMS.

SMS Marketing (campaigns)

Open Grow → SMS Marketing. Tabs:

  • Use [DNS_NAME] in the message to insert the router captive portal URL (Insert DNS).
  • Optional message templates via Browse; Test send before a big blast.
  • With NettPortal credits, each recipient costs 1 credit. With your own API, cost is on that provider — credits are not deducted.

Buy SMS credits

  1. Click the SMS credit balance in the header (or open Purchase SMS Credits).
  2. Buy by amount or by price (presets available). Ghana pays with Hubtel; other countries with Paystack.
  3. Complete checkout — balance updates when payment succeeds.

Credit purchases also appear under Payments as SMS Purchase. You only need credits when delivery mode is NettPortal credits.

Important caveats

  • Payment keys ≠ SMS keys. After a guest pays, the voucher SMS still goes through Communication — not Paystack/Hubtel payment credentials.
  • WhatsApp Communication is not available yet.
  • Hotspot usage warnings apply to online-payment vouchers only.
  • Compensation / IP Binding expiry SMS also use this same SMS setup (and credits when on NettPortal mode). See those feature guides for caps and options.
  • Provider list depends on organization country. Wrong region? Contact support.
  • Some UI strings still say “credits will be deducted” even if you use your own API — preview/send logic follows the delivery mode you selected.
